960.2.8 Distances and Pace at ADS-recognized Marathon competitions:

Suggested Wording –
- ** Exception: Preliminary entering or
andexiting obstacles at a pace other than a walk or trot arecantersubject to five-second break-of-pace penalty.

August 24, 2014I am against this change: Adding the word “penalty” after the phrase “five second break of pace” actually makes this rule less clear; it can be read that a penalty of five seconds can be added to the competitor’s score for any length break of pace, even less than five seconds. I understand the intent of the change but I think the meaning is clearer and less ambiguous without the change.
