Current Wording – CD-Article 960 The Course.Marathon:

960.2.8 Distances and Pace at ADS-recognized Marathon competitions:

  • ** Exception: Preliminary entering and exiting obstacles at canter subject to five-second break-of-pace.

Suggested Wording – 

  • ** Exception: Preliminary entering or and exiting obstacles at a pace other than a walk or trot are canter subject to five-second break-of-pace penalty.

    I am against this change: Adding the word “penalty” after the phrase “five second break of pace” actually makes this rule less clear; it can be read that a penalty of five seconds can be added to the competitor’s score for any length break of pace, even less than five seconds. I understand the intent of the change but I think the meaning is clearer and less ambiguous without the change.

    I see no reason to change the existing wording.

      It actually makes little sense without adding the word “penalty”.
