Suggested Wording

Article 256 Pleasure Drive Participation

256.1 If scheduling permits and except for courses that are to be driven without prior inspection:

a) A driver may not compete more than once in a Pleasure Drive class or in classes which use the same course.

b) A person who rides as a groom/passenger with one entry may not compete as a driver with another entry. the same class, or in any class using the same course.

c) A driver with one entry may compete as a groom/passenger with another entry.

256.2 A horse may not be entered compete in more than one Pleasure Drive once in the same Pleasure Drive class or in classes which use the same courseper competition day. { A horse may not compete in more than one Pleasure Drive per competition day unless appropriate conditions exist and approval for all horses to do so is given by the Technical Delegate.

256.3 A person who rides as a groom/passenger with one entry may not compete as a driver in the same class, or in any class using the same course.

Reason for change

256.1  – To allow drivers to compete with more than one horse if scheduling permits it. If a course is to be driven blind, then drivers are not to be allowed the advantage of driving it a second time.

256.2 – Potential horse welfare issues exist for horses competing multiple times in the same day. A TD can determine if welfare issues are minimal such as if the drives are short and local conditions (e.g. terrain, weather, etc.) are acceptable.

256.3 – If a course is to be driven blind, then grooms and passengers are not to be allowed the advantage of competing on it a second time.
