Suggested Wording

207.4 Protective Headgear Safety Equipment:
a. All juniors in all competitions must wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds current ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carry the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with harness secured. Failure to comply will result in elimination.
b. The ADS encourages the use of protective headgear for all competitors, attendants, grooms and passengers.
c. Junior Athletes will not be penalized for wearing a body protector in Pleasure Driving Shows. Body protectors are optional for all participants and are not to be penalized.

Reason for change

To allow but not penalize Junior athletes any participant for wearing body protection as the risks of injury are lower in Pleasure Driving than on Combined Driving marathons.

Good suggestion! I support that, as it clearly keeps it optional.

One more thought: Why not strike the word “junior” in the proposal? Seems to me, this option should be open to ALL athletes if they feel like it!

I agree with change to allow all competitors option – the way it’s worded, it implies if a non-junior wears protective vest, he or she could be penalized.
