Current Wording – PDArticle204
204.1 Large classes may be split by the judge, technical delegate or management if conditions warrant. The size of the ring should determine if a class should be split. Unless the ring is very large, classes of more than 14 entries should be split. In a small ring, classes may need to be split at a lower number of entries.
Suggested Wording
204.1 If conditions warrant, large classes may be split by the judge, in consultation with the technical delegate or and management, if conditions warrant. The size of the ring and the competition level of entries should be considered when determining determine if a class should be split. Unless the ring is very large, classes of more than 14 entries should be split. In a small ring, classes may need to be split at a lower number of entries.
Reason for change
The authority for splitting classes should rest with the judge who actually has to manage the entries in the ring. The judge should consult with organizer to ensure class schedules are properly adjusted and other relevant information regarding the competitors and with the TD on issues of safety.

September 22, 2014I don’t like the way this is written. The organizer should also be allowed to split classes ahead of the show if they see a need.. They have an idea if it is warranted and are aware of ring size long before officials arrive. That way they can alter the schedule in advance and order more awards if needed.
