Current Wording – Article CD960.6.1

The finish of Section B must not be more than 300 m from the exit of the last Obstacle unless the Technical Delegate grants an exception. If the last obstacle is situated within 300 m of the finish, the athlete may stop within 30 m of the out gate of the obstacle to repair a broken or detached harness without penalty. A 30 m marker will be placed on the track to indicate this point if the last obstacle is within 300 m of the finish.

Suggested Wording

The finish of Section B must not be more than 300 m nor less than 100 m from the exit of the last Obstacle unless the Technical Delegate grants an exception. If the last obstacle is situated within 300 m of the finish, the athlete may stop within 30 m of the out gate of the obstacle to repair a broken or detached harness without penalty. A 30 m marker will be placed on the track to indicate this point if the last obstacle is within 300 m of the finish. There shall be a marker indicating the pace is trot or walk only placed on the track at a point 300 m from the finish or 30 m outside the exit gate of the last obstacle whichever is less. An athlete may stop anywhere on the course except inside an obstacle or between the trot or walk only marker and the finish to make repairs to carriage or harness. (See article964 6.1)

Reason for change

The current wording states the 30 m marker is only placed if the obstacle is less than 300 m from the finish. If the obstacle 15 301 to 330 m from the finish there is no marker except at 300 m from the finish which gives the athlete from 1 to 29 m to stop for repairs or to come down to the trot . The suggested wording eliminates the need for the 30 m marker by adjusting the trot or walk only marker in accordance with the location of the last obstacle and also refers to the article regarding stopping on course.

While I can agree with the intend and clearer wording of the suggestion, I believe we really should not make any changes to any of the FEI text. Accordingly such changes would need to be proposed to the FEI and come from them if they agree. We should only make ADS amendments where absolutely necessary. I don’t see this as one that would fall into that need.
