Current Wording – Article CD945.2
At ADS-recognized events, no person, either on or off a competing carriage entry may be given verbal or physical directions to an Athlete with the exception of persons on the carriage during Marathon competitions. Athletes receiving verbal or physical assistance except for permitted assistance as listed in Article 945.3 shall be eliminated at the sole discretion of the ground jury.
Suggested Wording
At ADS-recognized events, no person, either on or off a competing carriage entry may be given verbal or physical directions to an Athlete with the exception of persons on the carriage during Marathon competitions. Athletes receiving verbal or physical assistance except for permitted assistance as listed in Article 945.3 may be eliminated at the sole discretion of the ground jury.
Reason for change
Change the word shall to may so ground jury doesn’t feel compelled to eliminate an athlete when for instance an over exuberant spectatator yells out directions which is completely out of the control of the athlete, and therefore no penalty should be applied.
