Current Wording – Appendix E Quick Reference

Marathon Markers: VSE – Hexagonal – Purple background with division markers if a separate course.

Suggested Wording – Appendix E Quick Reference

Marathon Markers: VSE – Octagonal – Orange background with division Compulsory Turn Flag markers if separate course.

Reason for change

Firstly, they are described as octagonal in the article. Second, the color changes to orange to satisfy the available sign stock. Adding “Compulsory Turn Flags” is more explanatory.

    I support this change.

I support this change, as the contrast between orange background and black numbers would be clearer than black on purple. I’ve had issues with clarity at our pleasure show for color blind drivers not seeing the black on purple clearly. With better contrast number and background, plus discrete shape, can be clear for all.

No where I have been lately uses the color/shapes that are recommended. Orange is fine but when faded can look like red faded.

On behalf of Ann Mc Clure:
The reasoning for switching to orange for convenience of materials does makes sense., except for the fact of color impairment. I would recommend another color so that the question of disabilities isn’t an issue.
