Suggested Wording – Article 956.1.8 – Penalties:Athletes
Grooms must remain seated in their proper places between the start and finish lines. They are not allowed to stand behind the Athletes
(Drivers) or indicate the course or to speak unless they are dismounted. Athletes (Drivers) whose grooms fail to comply will be eliminated. The groom may advise the Athlete (Driver) a whistle/bell has sounded.
Reason for change
To allow assistance in case of hearing difficulty and to be consistent with 956.2.5.

August 3, 2013Yes, please!! In Dressage too!
shadowbrook says :
August 4, 2013I agree too.
MikeRider says :
August 5, 2013From a pleasure driving standpoint, this makes sense in obstacle classes there as well. The same for pleasure driving ring classes where the groom instructs the driver on the various gait calls during rail work, etc.
Marjean McIntyre says :
August 5, 2013Agree. Sometimes it can be very hard to hear and I don’t see any problem with this at all.
Ted Campbell says :
August 6, 2013I agree.
hoofnit says :
August 6, 2013Since the athlete hasn’t STARTED until they cross the start line, can’t grooms already speak up to that point. I agree the clarity would be nice.
keithy says :
August 6, 2013I support this change.
This would be for clarification reasons only as there currently no penalty for the groom speaking prior to crossing the start line
DanRosenthal says :
August 8, 2013Agree. It is already actually legal in that it is prior to start but clarification is always a good idea

August 11, 2013agree

August 12, 2013Agree.

August 13, 2013agree.
Laurel says :
August 19, 2013I agree, should be for both cones and dressage.
Thank you
Donene McGrath says :
August 19, 2013I agree! Bells/whistles can sometimes be difficult to hear. The groom should be allowed to alert the driver in both phases – dressage and cones. It’s prior to the start so should not be an issue at all.
Zantke says :
August 20, 2013Dear Friends: Please read the rule book! This change is NOT needed – as we do have this already covered under Article 956.2.5. So while I do agree that grooms should be allowed to tell the driver when the bell or whistle is sounded, I do NOT agree to this RCS as we have it covered already.

August 22, 2013Support for both dressage and cones.
daves says :
August 24, 2013Support this change for dressage and cones but this language should be included in 956.1.2 also because you still don’t have coverage for prior to being on course, only “between start and finish” and “while on course”.
Pam Biggi says :
August 30, 2013I support this change.
