I would like to know the rationale for decreasing the window from 3 minutes to 2 minutes. If ADS wants perfection, where is it going to stop? One minute? Half a minute? Zero minutes? I am opposed to decreasing the window. Drivers should have the freedom to adjust the pace to fit the stride length and rate of repetition of the stride of the equine (not all horses are the same size or have the same gait qualities), not to mention condition, without having to conform to too narrow a standard.

I disagree with this change. I see no reason to narrow the window. What problems has the larger window caused? If none, why change it? It is just another rule change that will confuse drivers and add points.

I see no reason to change this rule. Get people confused enough and it will look like a circus out there!

I too am not sure what the FEI’s reason behind this proposed change is but can only speculate. Perhaps they want to get back to where we once were, that competitors have to pace their animals properly through the entire B section, rather than going fast all along and loosing the extra time by walking the last 300 meters?

Bear in mind that obstacles may be 25% of the distance in Section B. it’s easy to be early, even at the Preliminary level, when the obstacles are long. The finish distance was cut to 300 meters, so that the proper pace would be adhered to. At a walk, you can loose a lot of time in 300 meters. Before, we had up to 500 meters, that officials had a hard time controlling. This merely asks for more accuracy and to be good to your animals. Maybe hardest for the VSE and Small Ponies that self navigate. Overall, we have made it pretty easy to hit the three minute window. The window doesn’t make it harder to achieve the allowed time…It just makes you think about being too fast.
