At ADS-recognized events, no Competitor may be required to drive before his scheduled time. (See 944.2). |
Reason for Change: | Delete the ADS exception that “should there be any difficulty entering the arena, the Competitor may request permission from the Ground Jury to be led into the arena by the groom(s)”. This is a VERY old carry over from the beginning days of Combined Driving. In all my many years in driving I have NEVER seen a case where this was applied. It’s time to just delete it. |

RC#: 19-013
Status: Posted 5Jun18, Recommended CDC & ESC 19July18
Name: | Marc Johnson / CDC Chair |
ADS #: | 9050 |
Subject: | Carriage for Dressage/Cones |
Rule #: | 937.3.1 |
Current Wording: | 3.1 The same Carriage must be used for Dressage and Cones for CA 2* and above (see Article 936).
At ADS competitions at the Training, Preliminary and Intermediate Divisions, Athletes may elect to use a different carriage for Dressage and Cones. If the Athlete elects to use different carriages, it is the Athlete’s responsibility to notify the Organizer and the Technical Delegate of this decision at least 1 hour prior to the start of the Cones Competition so that wheel measurement of the carriage being used may be verified. Failure to notify a change in vehicle may result in elimination by the judge of Cones. |
New Wording: | The same Carriage must be used for Dressage and Cones for CA 2* and above (see Article 936).
[delete: |
Reason for Change: | The rule was changed by the FEI, by mistake, a few years ago. We have allowed the few competitors to change carriages for the past three years. This is done very infrequently with some inconvenience to the management. It is suggested that the option be removed and return to the standard followed previous to the change. |

Current Wording: | Note: The Organizing Committee, with the approval of the Course Designer and Technical Delegate, has the right to lower speeds and distances to suit the weather, terrain, footing, the experience of competitors, or the size and/or condition of the animals.
At ADS-recognized events with Section A, VSE entries in Training and Preliminary divisions may compete on a shortened course. At ADS-recognized events with Section A, VSE entries in Training and Preliminary divisions may compete on a shortened course. VSE entries in Intermediate and Intermediate-II divisions will use the full course. [Delete: |
Reason for Change: | This option, in the opinion of the CDC, was created during the introduction of VSEs to the sport. It has been proven that they can go the full distance without breaking and shortened courses are being used for the benefit of schedule. The option is no longer used and should be eliminated. |

FEI RCP CD-955 Condense Dressage General Impressions 19-070
RC#: 19-070
Status: Posted 30 July 18, Exceptions proposed by CDC and DDC
Name: | FEI |
ADS #: | |
Subject: | Condense General Impression |
Rule #: | CD 955 |
Current Wording | Article 955 General Impression
955.1 Principle 955.2 Paces 955.3 Impulsion 955.4 Obedience and Lightness 955.5 Athlete 5.2 Para-Equestrian Athletes in able-bodied competitions. 955.6 Presentation |
New Wording: | Article 955 General Impression 1. Principle There are two boxes at the end of the Judges Score Sheets for marks on: Athlete and General Impression & Presentation observed by the judges throughout the whole test.2. Athlete 2.1 Use of aids, handling of reins and whip, position on the box, accuracy of figures. The mark must reflect the consistent level of accuracy and quality of transitions.2.2 Para-Equestrian Athletes in able-bodies competitions Athletes may salute with a nod of their head only. Hats must not be removed at the salute, and contact must be maintained on the reins during the halt and salute. Appearance of driver Athlete and grooms, correctness, cleanliness harmonizing with of harness and carriage. Fitness, matching and condition of Horse(s), balanced picture of the complete turnout. Clearance and fit of harness. Harmony between horse(s) and athlete. |
Reason for Change: | This change is a move forward along with the FEI Dressage department and is proposed in order to focus the General Impression mark on what the judges see and not what they think. And this is good for the understanding of the public.
Please note: This RCP originates from the FEI not the ADS. It has been Proposed but not yet Approved, and therefore may be changed or withdrawn by the FEI. It may impact the ADS if approved by the FEI. Members have the opportunity to provide feedback on the impact the RCP would have on the ADS if it is approved by the FEI and adopted by the ADS. Both the Combined Driving Committee and the Driven Dressage Committee propose an exception to this FEI Rule Change Proposal. The proposed exception would retain the current FIVE boxes for General Impressions at the end of the score sheet and allow Organizers to have Presentation at the Halt under appropriate conditions. 2 Dec 18 BOD approve with modification: The CDC and DDC move to use the existing language in the Combined Driving section for Article 955.1,.2,.3,.4,.5 as the ADS exception to the FEI 2019 rule change to reduce collective marks in Dressage. This language will also be used in the Dressage section of the Rulebook for Article 523.
